BACKGROUND:
Los Angeles Rising Star Chef Raphael Lunetta is one of the most talented and well-known chefs in southern California . Lunetta recently celebrated the 8 th Anniversary of his restaurant JiRaffe, which opened on April 11, 1996 and continues to be one of the most popular restaurants in Santa Monica , CA . Also in April 2004, Lunetta reunited with his former restaurant partner Josiah Citrin when they jointly opened Lemon Moon, a sophisticated eatery in West Los Angeles . Busy with the new opening and overseeing all aspects of the ever popular JiRaffe, Lunetta continues to soar as one of LA’s premiere chefs and personalities.
Known as the “surfing chef,” Lunetta is often seen on Southern California beaches pursuing his second passion in life when he isn’t found in the kitchen at JiRaffe. He loves the water, loves the Southern California lifestyle and is known for his creativity and creations with fresh fish and the multitude of fresh produce found in Southern California . Lunetta grew up in a family where food became a focal point at a young age with frequent trips to the south of France to visit his mother’s relatives. It taught him the essence of good food and clean tastes, two attributes found in his restaurant and in his food.
Raphael is a true "favorite son/chef" in his hometown of Santa Monica and resides nearby in Mar Vista . Raphael is married to television personality Gabriella Teissier de Lunetta, and they have two sons, Etienne and Enzo.
The co-owned Lemon Moon restaurant is a more casual restaurant in West Los Angeles . It was named for the native heritages reflected in the co-owners’ last names: from the native French for lemon (co-owner and good friend Josiah Citrin) and Italian for moon (Lunetta). It features good basic food served similar to a New York eatery and is open Monday – Friday for breakfast, lunch and catering.
